Travel Information
If you travel by air you will be flying into Richmond International Airport. The RIA is approximately 22 miles from Fort Gregg-Adams. There is no military transportation available. A public cab costs approximately $35 (students will have to pay out of pocket). Ensure you get a receipt and annotate this expense on your travel claim. You will not be able to settle your travel claim until completion of this school and return to your parent unit. For non-entry level course students driving to Fort Gregg-Adams: Please call the Food Service Admin at DSN 687-3199 and you will be provided directions to your destination.
Billeting / Lodging
Non-Commissioned Officers:
Government lodging is space available. Depending on available space, students will stay in Bldg. 8401. Telephone and cable access is available in Bldg. 8401 at the student’s expense in the rooms. Check with the Officer of the Day upon check-in to find out the availability of government lodging. If there are no rooms available, you will need to follow the guidelines of the SNCO’s and Officer’s.
Staff NCOs / Officers: Government lodging is not available for these students. It is up to the individual student to arrange for his/her accommodations. There is limited billeting at the Fort Gregg-Adams Lodging, but students may still attempt to reserve rooms. The phone # is 1-800-403-8533. If no rooms are available at Fort Gregg-Adams Lodging, the link below offers a few hotels in the Hopewell / Colonial Heights / Prince George area. In listing this site, in no way do we imply or exclude endorsement by the United States Marine Corps, the Marine Corps Detachment Fort Gregg-Adams, or any other branch or department of the U. S. Government. (Hotels close to Fort Gregg-Adams)
Rental Cars
Rental cars are assigned IAW MARADMIN 455/04. Students from east coast commands are expected to utilize POV’s.
Per Diem
The largest problem that occurs with Marine students aboard Fort Gregg-Adams is Per Diem. For all “non-entry level” students, GOVERNMENT MESSING IS AVAILABLE ABOARD FORT LEE. “Non-entry level” pertains to all courses except for the basic course. Furthermore, there is no USMC Disbursing Office on Fort Gregg-Adams and any pay problems that arise while attending school must be addressed to Quantico. This will result in the student unnecessarily missing required academic hours. It is strongly encouraged that ALL students (NCOs included) have a government credit card PRIOR to detaching from your parent command. It is MANDATORY for the student to have either the government credit card on hand or have received (not just requested) advance Per Diem before detaching their parent command. (Get current rates here Standard Per Diem Rates). No student should report to MCD Fort Gregg-Adams without a government credit card or advance per diem. After the student’s 30-day window, he/she may request additional per diem to be forwarded through MCB Quantico and should be received by the individual approximately 10 days later. If you are a lateral move Marine, you will need to call the school prior to detaching from your parent command.
It is THE STUDENT'S responsibility to bring the following with them when reporting in;
Service Record Book:
Original Orders with appropriation data, original signature from the Commanding General/Commanding Officer or their direct representative and stamped "ORIGINAL ORDERS." Without this you will not be able to receive per diem while attending school. Any applicable waivers from CMC (i.e. weight/GT etc.), you must bring a copy of the approval with you.
Medical Record:
Students attending any schools at Fort Gregg-Adams, must bring their medical record with them. If you have any problem with pull-ups, push-ups, running or you have been hurt recently you need to bring this to the attention of a medical officer before detaching. No student will be attending schools at Fort Gregg-Adams while in a light duty/limited duty status.
Dental Record:
Although you will probably not use this during your stay at Fort Gregg-Adams, you are still required to bring this with you. Students will retain both medical and dental records while TAD at Fort Gregg-Adams to prevent their loss.
Checking in
Uniform for checking in is Service “A” uniform with Garrison Cover. During working hours (before 1630 weekdays), check in with the Administration Section of Marine Corps Detachment Fort Gregg-Adams located in building 9302. After working hours (after 1630 weekdays & weekend/holidays), check in with the Officer of the Day at the entrance of building 9302. If applicable, you will also get your room assignment. The next working day report to the TV Room on the 2nd deck in the same building (9302). You will be given guidance as to any changes by the OOD. Students should arrive early to prepare for school. Checking-in during working hours on the Reporting Date will allow enough time to purchase necessary school supplies, handle any administrative requirements, and become familiar with the base and surrounding locality.
Upon arrival, every student reporting to the school will be required to have a HT/WT check done by the S-3 Chief during normal duty hours (0730-1630).
