FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Im a SPC, 42A, reservist, deployed in Iraq, assigned to a Civil Affairs Brigade, and trying to reclass as a 92Y. What do I need to do?
Q. I am currently deployed and working in a 92Y slot, but not MOSQ as a 92Y. My battalion is working to get me to a school while we are deployed. My battalion S4 was wondering if there is an MOS course that will also get me qualified as a certified PBUSE user.
Q. I am a GS-9 civilian in the supply room and was wondering if civilians can take the Unit Supply Specialist (92Y10) Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Course.
A. Yes, civilians are permitted to attend this course; go through your CPO and secure a reservation in ATTRS. If one is not available, we can make arrangements for you to attend, but your command must be willing to fund your entire TDY cost. The course of instruction is approx. 6 weeks, divided into: principles, ULLS-S4, and Physical Security/Unit level Small Arms (SA) operations. If you do not have a requirement for the SA portion, it's only about 4 weeks. We pick up new classes on Tuesday of each week, unless there is a 4 day weekend (i.e., Memorial Day), then we pick up on Wednesdays.
Q. I'm in the Army National Guard and will report for the 92Y class. I am an E-6 and would like information on the course, quarters, etc., at Fort Gregg-Adams, VA.
A. Report to Bldg 8400B, L Company, 244th QM Battalion. The company does not send welcome packets. You can contact them at (804) 734-7499 for more info. Bring your initial clothing; do not bring any TA50. Meals and lodging are provided but there is no bus service, just the local taxi service, which is reimbursable (make sure your orders state that you are authorized taxi). Below is the Military Training Service Support (MTSS) memo and message to explain how Soldiers are fed and lodged here while in training. If your unit authorizes you to drive, when you arrive at Fort Gregg-Adams, go to the Lee Avenue gate, right off of Route 36, where you will have to get access to the post (if you are authorized to drive, your unit pays for POV travel and it must be stated in your orders). After the vehicle inspection, follow the road straight through the first traffic signal (Lee Avenue); the next intersection is B Avenue; turn right onto B Avenue; follow that for about 1/4 mile and on the right hand side past the barracks, you will find Bldg 8400B. They will assign billets.
Here is the MTSS Fact Sheet for Military Personnel Attending Resident Service School Training at Quartermaster School, NCOA and ALMC Fort Gregg-Adams, VA (Attach to Applicable Orders (PCS/TDY/ADT).
1. The Army is in the process of testing a change on how funds are distributed to the field to support military students attending institutional training in a temporary duty or active duty training status. Listed below are some important facts regarding the initiative and the changes that affect you.
Test began 1 October 2002.
Test includes all Army military components and ranks.
Test does not alter or stop your Basic Allowance for Subsistence.
Students are no longer required to call and make lodging reservations.
Your order to execute travel to attend training will direct you to report to one of two locations for a room assignment. Advanced Individual Training students will report to LIMA Company Headquarters, Building P-3402. All other students are to report to Building P-8025, Fort Gregg-Adams Lodging. While students no longer are required to contact billeting to make reservations, air travelers are encouraged to contact Fort Gregg-Adams Lodging at (804) 733-4100 (DSN 687) or 1-800-403-8533 before leaving their home station so lodging can be pre-arranged.
Students will no longer be required to pay for lodging (on post or off post). Cost of your stay will be funded by the training installation. Most students are housed on post.
Students no longer are required to pay for week day meals; students will eat at assigned dining facilities or MWR activities. Cost of your weekday meals will be funded by the installation. Weekend and Federal holiday meals will not be provided. Soldiers will be in a per diem status for meals (e.g., full locality meal rate) on weekends and Federal holidays. Cost of meals is funded by the training installation.
Students attending MOS AIT are not eligible for weekend or Federal holiday per diem for meals. These Soldiers will be messed seven days a week.
If directed to travel by air, you are authorized taxi fare NTE $42 a week. If the taxi authorization applies to your travel situation, make sure your orders authorize it. You will need to keep a daily log of taxi expenses. Authorization upfront makes seeking reimbursement for incurred expenses easier.
In and around POV travel, if approved by the order-issuing official, is limited as follows: if lodged on post: 5 miles per day; lodged off post: 12 miles per day.
Students are discouraged from bringing dependents/family members to the training site. Facilities are not available to provide adequate support and will not be funded.
Early report to training site is not authorized except for selected officers that are called to immediate active duty to await basic officer leader training.
2. Any further information needed should be directed to your unit training manager.

Q. I am reclassifying to 92Y and would like to change my assignment.
A. The QM school does not issue assignments. Assignments are forwarded from the Branch manager in Alexandria based upon need and criticality. Any actions for changing an assignment will have to be processed through the AG Personnel Services here at Fort Gregg-Adams. This cannot be accomplished until the MOS reclassification is completed and the 92Y is awarded as your primary MOS. Make sure that you make the company cadre aware of this when you arrive at Fort lee and in-process.
Q. Do you have any materials about running a supply room?
Q. I am trying to set up a battalion ULLS-S4 box but am having problems. I tried to do a parent level download from PBUSE but it said the UIC was incorrect. What do I need to do to get the information in (if possible)? Do I have to set each unit up individually before I can go to the next step?
A. First, you need to contact your PBO and verify the UIC; you may have a derivative of a UIC. You can also contact the Software Development Center-Lee Help Desk at (804) 734-1051 or DSN 687-1051 or visit their web site at www.sdcl.army.mil.
Q. I am very knowledgeable in the supply field and proficient using SPBS-R but have never used the ULLS-4 system. I have familiarized myself with this system, but need more in-depth training. I understand that the ULLS-S4 training is approximately one week. How do I obtain training?
Q. I am preparing a Mobile Training Team for staff training. As we prepare our lesson plans, one of the areas that we need assistance on is in basic supply and logistics at the unit level. The audience for this is NCOs and officers in a small non-automated military. What 92Y lesson would be applicable to this?
A. Get in contact with the Office of the Quartermaster General, Fort Gregg-Adams, VA, at (804) 734-4458. The information and materials related to the POI that was developed for an MTT would be the ideal media for conducting the training requested. You could probably pick and chose the specific topics of interest and wouldn't have to develop any materials.
Q. I would like to know if it would be possible to receive a waiver for the CL score of 95 for one of my Soldiers? This is an initial term Soldier that has a CL of 87 and has not been at their home station long enough to raise this score because our unit has been deployed.
A. The QM School does not have the authority to grant waivers for aptitude test scores. Those actions must be requested through the Soldier Support Center.
Q. I am a 92Y, unit supply specialist; since the US Army absorbed the old "Armorer" MOS into the 92Y MOS, does this mean that the unit supply specialist is now responsible for the armorer's duties? Does this mean that a 92Y should also seek some advancement into Armorers' classes/knowledge?
Q. I am a civilian contractor working for the office of the surgeon general as a property manager. How can I obtain the ULLS-S4 program? This program worked very well in my experience as a 92Y and as our SOP states, we need to be compliant with Army regulations.
Q. What is a P3 profile and can you be a 92Y and possess a P3 profile?
Q. I am a 92Y and have been for five years, but I have not been required to fulfill the armorer portion of my MOS since it has been awarded to me. Now I am the only qualified company level armorer, and have no tools or manuals to work from. I have just ordered the TOOL, KIT, SMALL ARMS REPAIRMAN set, but as for manuals, I am not even sure which titles to look for. We have the basic Soldier PMCS manuals, but they do not cover how to repair the weapons. Since the last time I used this information I was at Fort Gregg-Adams, what are titles of the list of manuals required? We use the following weapons:
M4 Carbine
249 SAW
M240
9MM PISTOL
MK19
M2 50 CAL
A. This is what you need:
Pistol, M9 - TM 9-1005-317-23&P
Q. I have a Soldier scheduled to attend 92Y (reclass) course. This Soldier is currently on weight control but is making above average progress and should meet the standard by course date. I have been told by my State SGM that Soldiers who are on weight control and making progress will be allowed to attend MOS school with proper documentation.
A. Soldiers who are on weight control must meet the standard before any favorable personnel actions occur......attending the course is a favorable action and, therefore, the Soldier must meet the weight standard prior to attendance at the course. Army/TRADOC regulation requires the Soldier to take a diagnostic and record APFT in order to successfully complete the course of instruction; if he is overweight he cannot complete the requirement.
Q. I am looking for any information pertaining to certification of personnel to become unit armorers. Currently, we do not have a unit armorer course on Fort Knox and are having to send people to Fort Campbell for certification. What are the requirements for certification and any pertaining regulations?
A. Approximately 18 months ago, TRADOC began closing down the contract schools that were providing unit small arms operations and maintenance training. I didnt know that Campbell had a course and I know it isnt using the approved POI that we have here at Fort Gregg-Adams and in Vilseck. Initially, TRADOC would have to approve the training and then based upon the material (in your case unit armor) the QM Center & School would have to certify that you are following the standards in place for students attending the small arms portion of the Unit Supply Specialist Course, MOS 92Y. During FY 03 and to date, this division, part of the Logistics Training Department, has been training the small arms portion of the course to personnel (over 500 additional students) who will be working within unit and organization arms rooms. Part of the reasoning is the amount and type of weapons, facilities and physical security requirements that you would have to maintain in order to support such a program. Personnel can be sent here TDY by their command based upon our ATTRS input and training schedules/cycles. Currently, the only cost is for the TDY of the Soldier. Soldiers receive approx 80 hrs of Arms Room Operations, Physical Security, TAMMS and the PMCS/disassembly/assembly of the most common weapons authorized at the unit/org level. We can also conduct more specific and structured training for officers and senior noncommissioned officers relating to the administrative requirements, inventory, and accounting of small arms. The emphasis here is on SIMS reporting, WWIMPS, and procedures/processes required when a weapon is lost or destroyed. We can be contacted directly at the 92Y Division (804) 734-3481/3580.
Q. Where can I find 92Y training materials?
A. Go to the ATSC website at Fort Eustis; then enter the Reimer Digital Library (must have AKO login/password); access Quartermaster Topics; find the 92Y Unit Supply Specialist TATS POI and go to Annex I. The first three lessons have the pertinent material necessary for the training of officers. The only other point I would emphasize as we do with our OBC students here at Fort Gregg-Adams, is the requirements and documentation necessary for the monthly Sensitive Item Inventory in AR 710-2 and DA Pam 710-2-1.
Q. Is it possible to get the practical exercises you use in the school for the 92Y course so that I may use them for professional development within my office?
A. The PEs and Lesson Plans are in a new format entered into a system called ASAT, which makes it very difficult to pull the various pieces from the TSP. I would, however, recommend a solution to your problem that may enhance both your effort and provide your personnel with a tool to better understand their occupational specialty and develop your training program. I highly recommend that you request through publications channels the Soldiers Manuals/Training Guides for Unit Supply Specialists. The publications and dates are as follows:
MOS 92Y Unit Supply Specialist STP 10-92Y12-SM-TG Skill Levels 10/20
MOS 92Y Unit Supply Specialist STP 10-92Y34-SM-TG Skill Levels 30/40
Both documents were published in March 2003 and include all the critical tasks, procedures, and steps related to training and sustaining your unit supply personnel.
Q. I am looking for a website that might have course outlines on rules and regulations in the Army Supply System.
A. Try the http://www.train.army.mil web site; click on "go to your training homepage"; click on "login"; you have to login with your AKO login/password; after you login, scroll down to "top 10 documents" and click on it; it will give you a list of items to select; scroll down to "STPs" and select it; then go back up and click on the "submit" button; this will give you a list of STPs; scroll down to STP 10-92Y12-SM-TG and click on it; it will take you right to it. You can also research the Reimer Library or the AKO web site.
Q. I am trying to establish a low density library for my 92Ys, where can I get some materials?
Q. I am looking for the official or preferred log used by armorers to track weapons being signed in and out of the arms room. I have searched quite extensively for the answer to this in the 190-11, 710-2, 710-2-1 and various other regulations and materials, and the only reference to this log is that there must be one, and that it is generally an internal or locally produced document.
A. Go out on the internet and do a universal search on FB2488. This will give you the Fort Bragg policy and procedures for controlling SA and Ammo IAW all applicable ARs and DA Pams. It's an excellent focal point for any commander trying to establish a local policy and procedure for their Arms Rooms.
Q. Are we allowed to bring laptop computers to the AIT course?
A. Yes, but you will only be able to use it during your off duty time--outside of the classroom.
Q. Im trying to get ULLS-S4 to print to a LaserJet 4 printer and Im wondering what needs to be done in order for it to work?
A. Call either the Software Development Center-Lee Helpline at 804-734-1051 or the ULLS Team Chief at 804-734-2764/0851 and they will provide detailed instructions. DSN is 687.
Q. I am looking for some information concerning the roles and jobs of a QM OPS Sergeant.
Q. Where can I find the Basic Load Requirements for Various Types of units within my command?
A. AR 710-2, para 2-21, discusses unit loads (Basic/Operational/Prescribed). It also lists the references required for each. As for particular units--that would have to be determined by equipment densities and demand data, as well as the commander's requirements based upon mission and number of days of supply. Procedures for the establishment and maintenance of basic loads is contained in DA Pam 710-2-1.
Q. Where can I find out how to load my ULLS-S4 master component file with the current TMs?
A. Contact LOGSA, AMXLS-ML, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898-7466; COMM 205-955-0616 or (DSN 645) or FAX 205-955-7720.
Q. I am trying to get some ULLS-S4 training aids for my supply SGTs in the Battalion. Are there any ULLS-S4 interactive sites that Soldiers can log onto or even some type of CD tutorial?
Q. What are the basic issue items for a new Army Recruit that would comprise the TA-50 clothing and equipment list?
A. The reasons for the variances are based upon not only individual requirements but also those of the MACOM and its subordinate units (i.e., 82d Airborne Division has both hot and cold weather deployments); therefore, mission stocks may be subdivided into deployment packages for type of climate, etc. The best reference for individual and organizational equipment for Soldiers is still CTA 50-901, but again individual commands may dictate changes according to requirements. AR 700-84 indicates the initial individual Soldier equipment issues...Class As, boots, etc., upon entry into or required during periods of service.
Q. I am trying to get my arms room on track. I am working out of my MOS and need help squaring this away. I need a few things from you if possible:
A general arms room SOP
A checklist for IG arms room inspections
Q. How do I download the ULLS-S4 Manual?
Q. What form do I record the serial numbers for my sensitive items on when they are being line hauled by a commercial carrier?
A. Various options--but recommend that DD Form 1348-1 be prepared for all serial numbered items that will be contractor carried. Any form of Government Transportation documents, such as bills of lading, shipping and receiving reports, etc., must accompany the vendor related paperwork. Key is that you must apply the appropriate amount of security necessary even while items are in transit--locked containers, wrapped, sealed, banded, etc. Inventory should be conducted jointly with the carrier ensuring all items are accounted for by SN prior to loading and then reinventoried once arrival takes place at NTC.
Q. Where can I find the supply advice and status codes?
A. DA Pam 710-2-1 or AR 725-50. Also, a good pocket guide for many logistical codes is the DLA Logistics Operations Customer Assistance Handbook. Contact www.dla.mil/J-4 for this document.
Q. My battalion is spread over 5 states. I am located at Fort Jackson, SC and my full time S4 NCOIC is located at Red Stone Arsenal, AL. We have 2 ea ULLS-S4 and ULLS-G boxes, one located at Fort Jackson, and one at Redstone, and I am trying to have the two communicate with one another to ensure that my NCOIC and I have the same data on supply and maintenance issues within the battalion and can work on issues concurrently with one another at these remote locations without duplicating work or effort at either location. Is there a way that I can have the two boxes communicate electronically, with one another at these remote locations, to prevent manual keying at both ends so as to ensure that duplicated work is not performed or additional mistakes are not made? I am being told this is a negative at this point because the systems are "old" and "DOS" based. If this true, should there be an updated system that we should be on, and if so, how do I put my hands on it?
POCs are as follows:
