Advanced Petroleum & Water Division (APWD)
Mission
The APWD trains both Department of Defense and international officers and civilians in petroleum and water operations and concepts. The APWD continues to educate its students long after they graduate from the Quartermaster School. The staff provides technical support in all areas of petroleum and water logistics to soldiers in the field and to the developers of concepts and doctrine. The goal of this division is to realistically train the most current doctrine and to support its graduates as petroleum and water leaders. The APWD is responsible for the following courses:
- 8A-SIR8, Petroleum & Water Officer Course (PWOC)
- Unit Level Training Readiness Assessment (ULTRA) Navy only
History
The Petroleum and Water Department has had a number of name changes over its history starting with the Petroleum Department, Petroleum and Field Services, Liquid Logistics and finally to its current name of the Petroleum and Water Department.
Facilities
Classes are conducted in Fichtner Hall (Building 11430B) from 0830 to 1730, located at the corner of Grant Avenue and 40th Street. The building was named for Lieutenant Colonel James M. Fichtner, a former chief of the division. Additional outside training is conducted in the petroleum and water training areas.
