Brigadier General Robert Swartwout
Quartermaster General | March 1813 - June 1816
Robert Swartwout was born in New York, the son of a Revolutionary Soldier. He was appointed as a Colonel in the New York Militia, serving at New York Harbor from August to November 1812. He was appointed as Quartermaster General with the rank of Brigadier General on March 21, 1813, and served in that capacity until June, 5, 1816. He commanded the 4th Brigade in the campaign of 1813 on the St. Lawrence and succeeded to the command on the fall of General Covington. He also served a term as an Alderman of New York City. He died July 19, 1848.
